It is impossible to imagine modern world energy without nuclear reactors – devices that are designed to organizing a self-sustaining controlled chain reaction division, accompanied by a significant release of energy.
Domestic energy said that in our country began the construction of the most powerful nuclear reactor on the planet generations. The installation will use fast neutrons – particles with a large kinetic energy. It is planned that the reactor in the first place will be used to research and test new species fuels, coolants and structural materials.
Building a multifunctional rapid research the reactor is reportedly engaged in Dimitrovgrad Research Institute of Atomic Reactors, part of state corporation Rosatom. Scientists predict that ultra-modern nuclear reactor will begin to operate in 2020 year. It will be the world’s most powerful nuclear installation, using fast neutrons of the fourth generation.
The thermal power of the sodium coolant station will be equal to one hundred and fifty megawatts. This, by the way, is still quite slightly compared to traditional nuclear stations. For comparisons, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant had an electric power of four thousand megawatts. However, such an innovative technology will certainly develop and improve, so there is everything reason to believe that Russian scientists over time significantly increase the power of such installations.
The construction of a nuclear reactor will be completed by 2018. After that, scientists plan on the basis of this station to create International Research Center. Here experts from many countries will conduct various experiments in the field of nuclear safety and medicine, as well as the development of promising nuclear technology. Using a new generation reactor, domestic and foreign experts will establish the production of isotopes of various types.
It is worth noting that currently nuclear reactors, working on fast neutrons, are used only in our country country. However, China, India and South Korea now establish the construction of such installations, hiring Russian specialists. In the near future, these innovative projects will also intend to tackle the Japanese energy.
