This time the Saratov craftsmen who invented an electronic nose capable of detecting the presence of drugs in the baggage, explosives and other goods prohibited for transportation. Given the device may well replace trained dogs whom Customs officers are using it now.

All the trick in the chip, says Professor Sysoev, developing this unique “nose” for almost twenty years. It all started with the fact that scientist read in one of the American scientific journals about the mysterious properties of nanofibers. At the moment, says NTV journalist Mikhail Chernov, the nose turned out to be somewhat long, it can even be compared with Pinocchio’s famous nose, however, according to Professor Sysoev, it’s all temporary. In the future, the electronic nose, i.e. unique the chip can be marked in any device, say mounted in tablet or smartphone.
Saratov Kulibins did not start from any new ones principles of smell, based on the most common biological nose. However, they invented a sensor and microchips that process the data obtained are able to capture even individual molecules of that or other substance, thus surpassing the dog’s sense of smell about ten times.
It remains only to configure the chip to capture certain odors such as drugs – and a great tool for Customs officers and other security services are ready. Moreover, setting up your electronic nose is much easier and cheaper than training for the dog’s goals, and working with him will be easier and more convenient, not to mention that his sense of smell is just perfect, and with him not even a great dog smell can be compared.
