Russian scientists managed to create porous from plastic and salt material that imitates the structure of the bone. In this case, the usual cookbook salt has become the main excipient.

At present, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene already has widespread use in artificial joints, as well as ceramics and metal. This type of plastic has high strength and density, and most importantly – completely safe for human tissues. These material characteristics are ideal for creating artificial bones.

Previously, the main problem in their creation was the lack of porosity. It is necessary for bones to move bone cells and sprouting blood vessels but make complex structures inside the artificial bone was not so simple. For volume printing plastic remains viscous for a long time.

We were able to solve this problem thanks to an unusual technology, proposed by scientists NITU MISiS. At the time of making the bone, the polymer is mixed with ordinary table salt, and after it solidification salt is washed with water. Pores remain in the created product the right size.

The material has been tested for strength at specified loads. and was also examined using a microscope. Mechanical properties the products turned out to be the same regardless of pore size, however the material has become less resilient than real bone. On the next the research phase will search for a combination of materials to create artificial bone with the necessary parameters.

ESOREITER previously spoke of a bone in the knee that was considered disappearing during evolution by a rudimentary organ.
