American Scientists at Northwestern and Chicago Universities deprived cancer cells of “immortality” by blocking one of the most important biological processes.
Researchers have created a molecular tool that suppresses one of the main functions of the endless proliferation of cancer cells, having a direct connection with the work of the telomerase enzyme. Scientists believe that this same enzyme enables cancer cells live forever.
In the process of searching for this tool, scientists have created more than two hundred compounds, and in the end it was found substance NU-1, which with most effective inhibited telomerase.
At the same time, the created molecular structure of NU-1 will allow create a drug for the treatment of tumors. Scientists sure that their development opens up new approaches to treatment cancer, and also allows you to understand the processes cell aging.
Earlier, American scientists (Johns Hopkins University) created powerful anti-cancer drug that blocks glutamine metabolism, which contributes to the growth of a cancerous tumor.
