Previously it was believed that almost everything was known to scientists about gold. However, researchers were able to create a new type of this expensive metal. For his experiment, he needed to create excess pressure, which affected the properties and structure of gold.
American scientists have found that gold can change its structure and even properties, if it is sharply rendered high pressure. This will lead to the fact that its structure will turn into open crystalline.
Gold was exposed during the research. exposure to extreme pressure equal to 2/3 of the pressure in center of the earth. Changes in the structure of gold were noted at pressure 220 GPa, i.e. pressure that exceeds atmospheric pressure of our planet 2.2 million times. Decisive moment in this the experiment was exposure to gold for a fraction seconds.
When compressed to 250 GPa, gold began to melt. Maximum the pressure that was exerted on gold during the experiment, amounted to 330 GPa. Researchers reported that this discovery is of particular importance since no one has studied properties before gold in such extreme conditions.
