Research team from singapore science agency and technology announced that they have found a way to effectively collect electrical energy from low-frequency vibrations for power small electronic devices.
This process works thanks to aluminum nitrate – one of materials that naturally accumulate electric charge in response on mechanical stress. This property is well known by the name of the piezoelectric effect. Idea of use low-frequency vibrations to generate electricity is not new, but it the technological implementation presented is a big step forward. Previously, scientists believed that the amount of energy collected directly depends on the size of the device, and only one was used frequency, which dramatically reduced production efficiency electricity. The new method allows the use of a wide range of frequencies and works even in tiny devices like wireless sensors.
Of course, you should not run ahead. The emergence of a new technology does not mean that very soon we will begin to cover our at home with ambient sounds. However if technology will prove itself in the best way, it will become huge a breakthrough in wireless and medical technology.
