Surprisingly, modern satellite imagery helps to find not just something paranormal, like an alien underwater base in Pacific Ocean or mysterious lines and drawings under the sands of Egypt, thanks to recent snapshots of Google Earth Engine, scientists have discovered almost five hundred million hectares of unaccounted forest.
For comparison: this is about 65 percent of the area of Australia! Imagine how much “extra” forest exists on Earth, which processes carbon dioxide into oxygen – more than 10 percent of already taken into account! For this reason, scientists will have to revise generally accepted concepts about the ecology of the planet.
Unaccounted forests are found in the arid regions of the Earth. It turned out that there are 50 percent more forests than stated in previous studies. New pictures showed that almost all continents have large forests, even in the north Colombia, in the southern Sahara Desert, in Central India, Venezuela and so on, that is, where no one has done anything like this before found.
It’s just that in these areas the forests do not grow too densely, but the old ones satellite systems could not record such sparse forest territory. It turns out that with the ecology of the Earth things are not so too bad, as previously thought …
