Somatic cells can be reprogrammed into stem cells, just placing them on a surface dotted with parallel micro grooves. This was stated by American scientists. how says an article published in the journal Nature Materials, stem cells are characterized by pluripotency, i.e. the ability turn into tissue cells of any type. Getting induced stem cells from somatic – a task to solve which accounted for by both doctors and pharmacologists. Now for this use biochemical methods: treatment of somatic cells with a “cocktail” of substances that triggers the expression of genes responsible for pluripotency. Scientists from the University of California showed which, like these substances, a certain effect on the cells microrelief of the surface on which they grow. Scientists were growing mouse fibroblasts – connective tissue cells – on a substrate, covered with parallel grooves ten wide and three deep micron. Discovery of biophysical mechanisms affecting reprogramming is essential for improvement methods for obtaining stem cells and for the development of new biomaterials.
