Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry possessed ability to lift items with spells, but researchers at the University of Tokyo have found their way to create levitation, writes the abcnews news portal.

Yoichi Ochiai and his colleagues have learned how to use ultrasound (sound waves outside the range, accessible to the human ear).

Chris Banmore, physicist at Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago, explained that the method of creating levitation using ultrasound is based on some basic principles of physics:

“When you are standing right next to the playing speaker, you can feel the sound pressure. In the case when two columns are located opposite each other, then in the sound stream between them arise regions where the sound is doubled, and the so-called voids where sounds annihilate each other.

These same voids also function as small “pockets” – they can hold small objects by weight due to pressure the waves.

Scientists use four acoustic arrays, with which the object can be moved in three directions.

Unfortunately, to master the art of levitation by buying a powerful stereo system, will not work. The sound wavelength determines how large the item can be placed in the “pocket”.

The device of scientists so far can hold objects in the air, no larger than two millimeters.
