Environmentalists call bioplastics a means of connecting with nature, since it is fundamentally different from ordinary polyethylene waste heavily polluting the world around us. Processing or restrictions on the use of plastic already familiar to us do not give an effect. That’s why scientists are developing more and more kinds of biologically pure polymer that is quick and easy decomposes in vivo without causing any harm.

However, what’s the problem, if bioplastics have been invented for a long time, why doesn’t it replace polyethylene made from oil? It’s not the first year that biodegradable polymers have been produced in the world, say PLA, PBS derived from sugarcane or corn. But the fact of the matter is that the production of these biopolymers additional sown areas, fertilizers, fresh water that ultimately turns into almost the same disaster for nature, not to mention the fact that these resources are not missing on our planet. Moreover, such a bioplastics comes out too expensive, why doesn’t he even have a commercial future …

According to Bioresource Techno magazine, TAU scientists (University of Tel Aviv) finally managed to create a biopolymer, which does not require either land or fresh water. receive it can be from waste microorganisms that feed on marine seaweed. Such waste is easily processed into organic matter, from which the Israelis got a unique biodegradable polymer – polyhydroxyalkanoate, or abbreviated PHA.

The co-authors of this invention were Professor Michael Gozin and Dr. Alexander Golberg. Any product or the same packaging from PHA, scientists assure that it easily decomposes in nature without causing any harm. Moreover, to create the polyhydroxyalkanoate itself, some plants are required, which means farmland and fresh water. This will allow for relatively cheap and efficient production. bioplastics in any country where it is possible to use marine resources, i.e. algae.

Currently, reports Bioresource Techno, TAU scientists finalize their invention, selecting the most optimal algae-bacteria combinations to reduce costs such bioplastics and the creation of its various modifications that meet all kinds of market needs for plastic products and packaging.
