University of Washington scientists find a new way the conversion of human stem cells to insulin producing cells, which will help overcome forever complex forms of diabetes. About This is reported by Science Alert.
Researchers have identified a way to force pluripotent cells, able to turn into any body tissues, transform in the beta cells of the pancreas that produce insulin. When modified cells were transplanted into severely mice diabetes, the condition of the animals improved rapidly. For two weeks, the blood glucose level of rodents returned to normal and remained low for many months.
The new method reduces the number of side cells of others types formed from pluripotent cells. Together with beta cells often form other pancreatic cells and liver, which are not harmful, but also do not play a role in glucose control and limit the therapeutic effect of stem cells.
The results of the work will help to develop an effective treatment. diabetes in the future if experiments are successfully reproduced with involving people.
