Northrop Grumman Corporation commissioned by US Air Force developing advanced wireless power transmission technology with orbiting spacecraft.
Designated System (SSPIDR – Space Solar Power Incremental Demonstrations and Research), necessary for providing US military communications in remote places dislocation. As planned by the designers, the spacecraft will be convert sunlight into radio wave radiation, and direct it to the desired point on Earth, where a special system reception will convert radiation into electricity.
SSPIDR system when transmitting energy over long distances, most likely will use microwave radiation. More detailed information about this project is not yet available. Known that this technology has been studied by Americans since the 1970s, but real results have not yet been achieved.
For the implementation of this project, Northrop Grumman Corporation will receive more than $ 100 million from the US Department of Defense.
Earlier, Scottish engineers suggested “dumping” into an abandoned the mine has tons of cargo to produce cheap electricity.
