Andrey Kiselev, a leading Russian scientist Voeikov Geophysical Observatory, criticized the theory Thomas Crowther from Switzerland, who offered as salvation planet from global warming to plant a trillion trees.

  • First, writes a Russian scientist, in Europe with its great urbanization simply has no place for a trillion trees. Or EU going to connect Asian, American and even African countries? But this is pure utopia.
  • Secondly, the forest must not only be planted, but also grown and look after him. In the absence of care that will require huge financial investments and hundreds of millions of hands, green plantations will quickly decline and begin to rot. And in this case the forest will no longer be an absorber of carbon dioxide, but an additional its source.

Kiselev is sure that the solution to this environmental problem lies rather, in the plane of replacing today’s thermal power plants with harmless renewable energy sources, although not all here definitely for now. There are no cheap and inexhaustible sources in the world energy, and safe, because under this definition so far only nuclear power is suitable, if not for radioactive waste and low reliability of modern nuclear reactors themselves.

And if we talk about the processing of surplus in the atmosphere of CO2, then today you need to look at artificial methods (artificial leaves, there are already such developments), than to natural ones, the more than planting a trillion trees is unrealistic in the physical plan, even just to prepare (grow) seedlings and plant them, not to mention everything else …
