In recent decades, the world has seen rapid development of medicine. This allows you to increase the average life expectancy of earthlings and produce much more healthy offspring. According to the latest forecasts by the UN Department on social and economic issues, by 2030 the population the planet will reach 8.5 billion people, and after 2050 will pass for 9.7 billion.
Is this good or bad? Unfortunately, many experts tend to the second option.
The United Nations report states that the level fertility rate on Earth, although declining in many regions, but life expectancy, however, is growing, and this leads to a constant increase in the average age of the inhabitants the planet.
The problem, according to experts, is that many the resources that ensure our survival are non-renewable. These include oil, gas, coal and others combustible minerals, metal ores, building materials. The more we mine them, the less they remain on Earth. Earlier scientists argued that future generations should be taken care of, however, today the situation has become even more deplorable: resources lacking already here and now.
Compounded by the fact that most people have forgotten how to live modestly and tend to consume more and more every year. Here you will involuntarily think that in the long run it is worse: “poor socialism” or “rich capitalism”. Someday a capitalist society of mindless consumption will gobble up itself – Insightful personalities spoke about this 50 years ago.
Therefore, it is not surprising that world scientists are ardently advocate for balance, fair distribution and economical use of natural resources.
In 2013, the famous naturalist and documentary filmmaker David Attenborough very sharply expressed his attitude towards intensive growth human population. Briton compared humanity with the plague or cancerous tumor and said that earthlings either themselves will start control their numbers, or nature will do it for us. The scientist also said that a key factor that will allow the planet to get rid of part of people, global warming will become. AND ironically, the rise in temperature of the planet will be to blame again human.
Many prominent scientists supported then Attenborough. For example, the popular theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking even stated that the human race has been left for no more than a century. If the situation is our blue ball, according to Hawking and Attenborough, is not change, the increase in the human population coupled with inattention humanity to the search for solutions to this problem will certainly lead to global catastrophe – Apocalypse.
