Sonoluminescence is a mysterious physical a phenomenon characterized by the occurrence of flashes of light when collapse of bubbles formed in a liquid by ultrasonic waves. Simply put, this phenomenon is the transformation of sound into the light.
If you place a resonator in a container of water and create a powerful ultrasonic wave, then in the very center of the container will appear bluish light. For 70 years, scientists have been trying to find an explanation. to this phenomenon, however, so far without success. In the explanation of nature sonoluminescence, of course, there are some progress, but so far insignificant.
At first, people of science naively believed that everything was to blame. friction, however in the 1980s it suddenly turned out that sound the waves expand the bubbles in the water and heat the gas in them to temperatures are higher than on the surface of the sun! Possibly bubbles burst precisely from the heat and release a huge (by the standards experiment) energy that is ignited by plasma. However, that’s all another theory, and new hypotheses, despite daily research, until it is foreseen – another amazing mystery of Nature.
As for the practical side of this discovery, in the future scientists plan to use the phenomenon of sonoluminescence for deep-sea lighting of the oceans without any lamps and spotlights.
