Many people know that officially all over the world slavery is abolished, however, in one country it still exists. Actually on legally it exists in Mauritania where a thousand years ago Arabs-Berbers seized power, and indigenous people made their slaves.

Since then, an ordinary Arab family has in its serving several families of Afro-Moorish (haratin). On the for centuries, slaves have been handed down from generation to generation: children slaves continue to serve the same masters as their parents.

Of course, earlier in the country attempts were made to get away from this. the shameful stigma of society and restore freedom to the haratins. In 1905 even a bill to abolish slavery was approved, and later in 1961 This was recorded in the Constitution of Mauritania during the year.

Despite the laws adopted in the country, the situation has not changed. IN In 1981, the authorities of Mauritania declared all slaves free, but also nothing has changed here, since nothing in the document talked about the punishment for its failure.

Later in 2007, strict measures were nevertheless introduced that provided for offenders a ten-year prison sentence and fine up to 4 thousand dollars. Riots began in the country, and a year later there was a coup. Of course, the law adopted earlier safely forgotten.

No less curious is the fact that the slaves themselves are not very want freedom, since centuries-old slavery has tied them to the past place and uprooted all desire to change something in his life.
