And although there are by no means as many homeless people in Copenhagen as in others cities of the world, designer Rangild Lubbert Terpling began think about this issue when I saw photos of people, living on the street. She wanted to find a creative solution to this problems, and she started working on a new project.
“I made this refuge in collaboration with homeless people,” Terling says, explaining that she spent many weeks in temporary shelter to find out who are in it. “It took them a while to feel trust in me so they start talking to me. Many of them have any addictions are either physically or mentally unhealthy, so this is by no means an instant process. ”
Finally, after several dozen interviews to better understand problem, she found two people with whom it was possible to work on project design. “I showed them the outline, and they gave me the opposite a connection regarding how this will actually work, as they are very familiar with the question. They also helped me. test the final product. ”

The awning is made of strong waterproof material which is capable survive even in very harsh conditions. And although he has not yet passed long-term strength tests, Terpling says that even if small holes appear in the material, they can be easily close up.
Being rolled up in a backpack, the awning can serve as storage facilities. “I often saw homeless people forget or lose their things – because they actually have quite a lot of different things, but they do not have a single place where they could store them. therefore this is also an important part of the product, “explains Terpling.” So storage, mobility and shelter are the three problems that this development helps. ”

Terpling currently has two prototypes and is working on improving the final parts before starting production. She plans to sell backpacks on the camping market, and use the proceeds for distribution to those who have to live on the street.
