US National Archives first published secret drawings supersonic flying saucer, which was developed from 1951 to 1956 for the US Air Force, the so-called Project 1794 (Project 1794).

According to the attached project summary, the device was supposed to to have absolutely phenomenal characteristics for 1956 – with a practical ceiling of more than 30 km, a flight range of at least 2 thousand km and a maximum speed of 3.1 thousand to 4.2 thousand km / h. At this, as is customary for “flying saucers”, take-off and landing should were to be upright. Such characteristics at that time were available to only a few experimental aircraft and never combined in one plane.

According to the developers, given in the final part report, the next stage of design and prototyping should was to take from 18 to 24 months and cost a little more than 3 million dollars, which at today’s prices is about 26 million dollars.
For comparison: the development of the latest Lockheed F-35 fighter cost the US ministries of defense and their allies monstrous 40 billion dollars.
“Project No. 1749” has never been implemented because technologies of that time did not allow the disk-shaped apparatus not to only achieve declared characteristics, but even stably take off the ground. By 1960, the U.S. Air Force closed all such projects.

The theme of “flying saucers” of terrestrial origin received another development about four years ago when a university professor Florida Subrata Roy patented aircraft design WEAV shaped like a flying saucer. Design in which the current air created by the electromagnetic method, was confirmed in prototype with a diameter of 15 cm
And this is a project of the Canadian car-plate VZ-9- AV Avrocar, created as an American secret development and surprisingly similar to the project 1794. It was officially closed in 1961.
The development of the engineer, according to the American press, immediately became interested in the American space agency NASA, as well as the US Air Force.
Documents on “Project No. 1749” were made public by the National classified information center, special department National Archives created by presidential decree 13526, signed by Barack Obama in December 2009 and defining procedure for working with classified information.
