Railgun is an electron gun that can hit a target on hundreds of kilometers. This is not a rocket, but an ordinary shell fired at the principle of a gun, but flying at a speed higher than rocket.
The USA recently passed successful tests of a laboratory version of a supernova gun in which the projectile is not accelerated by force pushing, creating a blast wave, and using magnetic fields, due to which the output speed is reached in two thousand meters per second. Thanks to this railgun will allow you to fire at a distance of four hundred kilometers, which exceeds modern projectile range records about ten times. TO the speed of such a projectile makes it easy to shoot down rockets.
It should be noted that shells, unlike missiles, do not contain explosives, making them safer to equip ships. The US plans to use railguns on new military vessels, which (according to preliminary forecasts) will receive this promising weapons by 2020.
The current laboratory sample provided a capacity of 32 megajoules – and this stage of the creation of new weapons by the US military is already passed. Now they are starting to create a railgun, which will be twice as powerful. It is such weapons that they plan to install on modern military cruisers.
